Decodable books for High Schools
New Zealand High Schools are looking at their next big challenge – rolling out a structured literacy approach to reading for their struggling students. Part of that challenge is to find decodable texts that are of high interest and appeal to students of High School age, while being written at a level that they can read successfully. We have three series of decodable books that students will find age-appropriate and engaging, which can form the backbone of your literacy teaching – along with Sound and Word Cards for revision and consolidation of phonics skills.
Reading Adventures: eight graphic novels that have instant visual appeal but are light on text and easy to read.
Reading Road: 50 fiction and non-fiction titles containing characters and themes of interest to older students (supported by the Reading Road AI Tutor – a digital programme free to purchasers of the print product).
Next Steps Decodables: 36 fiction chapter books to help students master their reading skills and get them ready to tackle authentic texts with confidence.
Sound and Word Cards: 140 Sound Cards representing every sound and spelling in our programme, plus 800 Word Cards to practice decoding sounds and reading.
We have bundled these resources into a single and multipack to make ordering easy.
Take a look at our Scope and Sequence for more information on spellings and sounds covered in our programme. You can also read more about each resource, or order them individually, by clicking an icon below.
